On Monday, the Pune Municipal Corporation announced that a Kalas, Yerawada, resident, age 31, has been diagnosed with an infection caused by the Zika virus. This brings the total number of pregnant patients infected with the virus to six. There are currently twelve cases in the city overall.

In a meeting on Monday, the civic health department also instructed more than fifty private hospitals to notify the company of any suspected cases of Zika virus-like symptoms.

Before announcing Zika virus infection cases, the samples will be sent to the Indian Council of Medical Research’s National Institute of Virology (ICMR-NIV), whose report—whether positive or negative—will be taken into consideration. 83 samples of expectant mothers with possible zika virus infections have been sent to NIV, according to PMC data.

The woman, whose pregnancy was discovered in the seventh week, began exhibiting symptoms on June 29. These included fever, body aches, and rash. When she went to a private hospital, a PCR test revealed that she had the Zika virus.

Additionally, the hospital notified PMC, and PMC instructed them to send the sample to the National Institute of Virology (ICMR-NIV) of the Indian Council of Medical Research. The woman’s Zika virus infection was also verified by the NIV report. Civic health officials stated, “We are picking up more cases due to intensified surveillance.”

In the impacted areas, the civic administration has been conducting anti-larval and fogging exercises.

In June, a 46-year-old physician and his 15-year-old daughter from Erandwane tested positive for the Zika virus, becoming the city’s first two confirmed cases of the outbreak this year.
