New Delhi, 02 May 2025: A recent study has demonstrated that once-weekly semaglutide injections provide long-term glycemic control and may reduce the need for insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The research highlights semaglutide’s potential as a valuable addition to T2D treatment regimens, offering effective blood sugar and weight management.

Conducted as a retrospective analysis, the study evaluated the real-world effectiveness of once-weekly (OW) semaglutide in patients with T2D who were already on insulin therapy. The findings revealed that semaglutide not only improved glycemic control but also facilitated weight loss and allowed for insulin dose reduction or discontinuation in some cases.

  • Improved Glycemic Control: Patients experienced significant reductions in HbA1c levels, indicating better blood sugar management.
  • Weight Loss: The addition of semaglutide contributed to meaningful weight loss, an important factor in T2D management.
  • Reduced Insulin Dependency: Some patients were able to decrease or even discontinue their insulin therapy, highlighting semaglutide’s role in insulin deintensification.

These results suggest that OW semaglutide can be an effective strategy for patients with T2D, particularly those struggling with insulin management and weight control. By improving glycemic outcomes and reducing the reliance on insulin, semaglutide offers a promising approach to T2D treatment.

The study underscores the benefits of incorporating once-weekly semaglutide into T2D treatment plans, especially for patients on insulin therapy. Its ability to enhance glycemic control, promote weight loss, and potentially reduce insulin requirements makes it a valuable tool in the ongoing effort to manage type 2 diabetes effectively.

Note: Patients should consult their healthcare providers to determine the most appropriate treatment options for their individual needs.
