Mumbai On Alert: BMC Sets Up Special Ward Amid Monkeypox Scare

New Delhi, August 24: As concerns over the global monkeypox outbreak continue to rise. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken proactive measures to prevent and contain the spread of the virus in the city. One of the key initiatives is the establishment of a dedicated ward at Kasturba Hospital to isolate and treat suspected cases of monkeypox.

The special ward, equipped with necessary medical facilities and trained healthcare professionals,. Is a crucial step in the BMC’s efforts to prevent the virus from gaining a foothold in Mumbai. The city’s large population and dense urban environment make it particularly vulnerable to outbreaks of infectious diseases.

The BMC has also implemented other measures to mitigate the risk of monkeypox transmission, including:

  • Increased Surveillance: The civic body has intensified its surveillance activities to detect and track any potential cases of monkeypox.
  • Contact Tracing: Health officials prepared to implement rigorous contact tracing measures to isolate individuals who may have come into contact with infected persons.
  • Public Awareness Campaigns: The BMC has launched public awareness campaigns to educate the public about the symptoms of monkeypox. Its mode of transmission, and preventive measures.
  • Healthcare Preparedness: Hospitals across the city are being equipped with isolation facilities. And trained healthcare professionals to handle potential cases of monkeypox.
  • Stockpiling of Medical Supplies:
  • The BMC is ensuring adequate stocks of personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical supplies to meet the needs of healthcare workers.

While no confirm cases of monkeypox have reported in Mumbai as of now. The BMC’s proactive measures aimed at preventing the virus from entering the city and spreading among the population.
