Dengue: Maharashtra Reports 3,736 Dengue Cases Till July, Chikungunya Cases Double

According to state health department data, the number of Chikungunya cases in Maharashtra from January to July this year has more than doubled to 875 from 363 during the same period last year.

According to the data, there has been an increase in malaria cases this year, even though the number of dengue cases for the same period is still comparable to last year.

Maharashtra reported 3,736 dengue cases this year, compared to 3,164 cases and four deaths the previous year.

From January to July of this year, the state recorded 5,300 cases of malaria and 3 deaths, compared to 4,867 cases and 2 deaths during the same period last year.

With at least 83 confirmed cases this season, Pune leads the state in the number of Chikungunya cases. 82 in Kolhapur, 57 in Akola, and 55 in Sangli-Miraj come next.

There have been 513 cases of dengue viral infection reported from Mumbai, 348 cases from Nashik, and 141 cases from Kolhapur. 3,736 dengue cases were reported in the state overall, with Mumbai, Nashik, and Kolhapur accounting for 26% of these cases.

Data from Pune Municipal Corporation indicates that 16 out of 720 suspected dengue cases tested positive for the virus. Based on data from the PMC health department, there were fifteen cases of Chikungunya.

According to Dr. Suryakant Deokar, assistant chief medical officer of the PMC, “we have issued over 1,000 notices to housing societies, under construction firms, and other such places where mosquito breeding sites have been identified and levied an administrative fee of Rs 3.87 lakh accordingly.”

The two cities in the state with the highest number of malaria cases reported are Gadchiroli and Mumbai. Between January and July of this year, there were 5,300 cases of malaria reported in Maharashtra; 2,081 of those cases were from the Gadchiroli district, and 2,163 were from Mumbai.
