WHO Urges Rapid Access to Mpox Diagnostic Tests, Invites Manufacturers for Emergency Review

New Delhi, August 31: The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a strong call for increase access to mpox diagnostic tests. Urging manufacturers to submit their products for emergency review. The global health agency expressed deep concern over the ongoing mpox outbreak and the challenges posed by limited testing capabilities.

Mpox Diagnostic Kits: The Need of the Hour

Accurate and timely diagnosis of mpox is crucial for effective public health response. Diagnostic tests play a vital role in identifying cases, isolating infected individuals, and tracing their contacts. However, the availability of mpox diagnostic tests remains limited in many parts of the world, hindering efforts to control the outbreak.

WHO Calls For Mpox Diagnostic Kits

The WHO has urged manufacturers to submit their mpox diagnostic tests for emergency review by the WHO’s Emergency Use Listing (EUL) process. The EUL process allows for the rapid assessment and approval of medical products to address public health emergencies.

India’s Response on Mpox Outbreak

The Indian government has also taken steps to address the mpox outbreak. Forming a high-level expert committee to review the situation and provide recommendations. The committee has emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and treatment in preventing the spread of mpox.

Government Guidelines To Prevent Mpox Outbreak

The Indian government has issued guidelines for healthcare providers on the diagnosis, management, and prevention of mpox. These guidelines include recommendations for:

  • Beware of the Symptoms: Healthcare providers should be alert to individuals presenting with symptoms consistent with mpox, such as fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes.
  • Get Tested: Diagnostic tests for mpox should be conduct in laboratories with appropriate biosafety measures.
  • Follow Isolation Guidelines: Infected individuals should be isolate to prevent the spread of the virus.
  • Contact Tracing: Identifying and monitoring contacts of infected individuals is essential for controlling the outbreak.
  • Prevention: Public health measures, such as vaccination and personal hygiene, should be promote to prevent the spread of mpox.
