New Delhi, 08 August 2025: Hepatitis is a dangerous medical condition in which the liver becomes inflamed and loses its ability to function properly. The liver is one of the most vital organs in the body, responsible for detoxifying blood, producing bile for digestion, and storing essential nutrients. When hepatitis develops, these processes are severely affected, potentially leading to life-threatening complications.

What Causes Hepatitis?

This liver disease can occur due to viral infections, excessive alcohol intake, toxins, autoimmune disorders, and certain medications. The most common cause is viral hepatitis, which is classified into five main types — Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E.

Symptoms of may include fatigue, yellowing of the eyes and skin (jaundice), loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pain, dark urine, and joint pain. However, some types — especially Hepatitis B and C — may remain asymptomatic for years, silently damaging the liver.

Prevention depends on the type. Vaccines are available for A and B, while safe food practices, good hygiene, safe sexual practices, and avoiding sharing needles can reduce the risk of all types. Regular liver check-ups and early diagnosis are key to preventing complications like liver cirrhosis and cancer.

Raising awareness about the conditon and encouraging timely medical intervention can save lives. In this segment, we explore the differences between these types, their dangers, and the importance of prevention and treatment.
