In the wake of a troubling incident involving a resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, representatives from the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA), Indian Medical Association (IMA), and Resident Doctors’ Associations of Governmental Medical Colleges & Hospitals in Delhi met with the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in New Delhi. The meeting was held to discuss the safety and security of healthcare workers across the country.

Demands for Better Protection

During the meeting, the associations expressed their deep concern about the safety of doctors and healthcare professionals at their workplaces. They urged the Union Health Ministry to take immediate action to protect those on the frontlines. The Ministry listened to their demands and assured the representatives that the government is committed to ensuring the safety of healthcare workers.

Government’s Response

The Union Health Ministry informed the associations that the government is aware of the challenges faced by healthcare professionals and is sensitive to their concerns. It was noted that 26 states have already passed laws to protect healthcare workers. To further address these issues, the Ministry promised to form a Committee that will explore additional measures for improving the safety of healthcare professionals. This Committee will include representatives from state governments and other stakeholders to gather comprehensive suggestions.

Ministry’s Appeal to Doctors

Considering the rising cases of Dengue and Malaria, the Ministry requested the protesting doctors to return to their duties in the interest of public health. The Ministry emphasized the importance of healthcare professionals in managing these outbreaks and ensuring the well-being of the community.
