Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized his government’s commitment to providing accessible and affordable healthcare to every Indian. This statement of PM Modi follows the Union Cabinet’s decision to offer health coverage to all individuals aged 70 years and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), regardless of their income.

PM Modi announce the benefits of Scheme

This expanded coverage will benefit around six crore senior citizens, providing each with Rs 5-lakh worth of free health insurance. This will support approximately 4.5 crore families. Eligible beneficiaries will receive a new distinct card under the scheme to access the benefits.

“We committed to ensuring that every Indian has access to affordable, high-quality healthcare. With this Cabinet decision, health coverage extended to all citizens above 70 years of age. Prime Minister Modi shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He further mentioned that this scheme will provide dignity, care, and security to senior citizens.

Green Mobility Initiatives with PM E-DRIVE Scheme

The Union Cabinet also approved two significant green mobility schemes, with a combined outlay of Rs 14,335 crore. The PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme has a budget of Rs 10,900 crore, while the PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) Scheme allocated Rs 3,435 crore.

These schemes focused on promoting the use of electric vehicles, such as buses, ambulances, and trucks. Prime Minister Modi noted that the PM-eBus Sewa scheme will encourage greater participation in the sector and help build a sustainable future.

Hydropower Projects for Infrastructure Growth

In addition to healthcare and green mobility, the Cabinet also approved Rs 12,461 crore to support the development of 31,350 MW hydropower projects. These projects will implement over the next eight years and expected to boost infrastructure in remote areas.
