Kerala On High Alert After Reports of Suspected Mpox Case, Patient Under Isolation

New Delhi, September 18: A suspected case of mpox has been reported in Kerala’s Malappuram district. Following the hospitalization of a man who recently returned from abroad and began showing symptoms of the disease. The patient, who arrived in Kerala a few days ago. Initially admitted to a private hospital and later transferred to Manjeri Medical College after doctors suspected monkeypox.

According to a district health official. The man’s samples have sent to Kozhikode Medical College for testing, and the results awaited. “From there. He admitted to the Manjeri Medical College. On suspecting that it might be a case of monkeypox. We sent his samples to Kozhikode Medical College for testing,” the official said. Health officials are closely monitoring the patient’s condition and conducting necessary tests to confirm or rule out the diagnosis. A team of experts has dispatched to the area to assess the situation and implement preventive measures.

The suspected case has raised concerns among the public and health authorities alike, as Kerala has previously experienced outbreaks of other infectious diseases, such as Nipah and dengue. The state government has urged citizens to remain calm and vigilant, and to follow the guidelines issued by health officials.

As a precautionary measure, the government has directed. All health facilities in the state to prepared to handle Mpox cases. Hospitals have instructed to set up isolation wards and ensure adequate supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers.

Isolation: Isolating the suspected patient and any household members.

Disinfection: Disinfecting the patient’s home and other areas where they may have been.

Public awareness: Conducting public awareness campaigns to educate people about the symptoms and prevention of Mpox.

The Kerala government has appealed to the public to cooperate with health officials and follow the guidelines issued. By taking these precautions, we can help prevent the spread of Mpox and protect the health of our communities.
