Ajwain also known as carom seeds, is a spice that is frequently used in Indian cooking and traditional medicines. It is derived from the fruits of the Ajwain plant (Trachyspermum Ammi), which is grown throughout Asia and is endemic to the eastern Mediterranean region. The tiny, oval-shaped seeds of ajwain have a very strong flavor and scent.

Ajwain seeds are also well-known for their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which makes them a popular component in natural remedies for various health issues, such as respiratory disorders, menstrual cramps including its potential effects on managing hypertension or high blood pressure.

Ajwain has the potential to improve blood pressure regulation by preventing or lessening blood vessel damage through its anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Diuretic qualities: It is believed that ajwain has mild diuretic qualities, which could lead to an increase in urine output. Diuretics are frequently given to treat hypertension to help the body get rid itself of extra fluid, which lowers blood pressure.

Specifically, potassium is essential for controlling blood pressure. It helps in reversing the effects of salt, which may cause hypertension. Furthermore, potassium facilitates better blood flow by relaxing blood vessel walls.

Although these properties imply that ajwain might be useful in controlling hypertension, it is important to use caution when using it. Herbal remedies can interact with medications and may not be suitable for everyone.
