Lingonberries are known by several names like foxberry, cowberry, redberry, partridgeberry, bearberry, and Alaskan lowbush cranberry. They contain high content of a wide range of nutrients. Here are some health benefits of including lingonberries in the daily diet.

Lingonberries are good for weight management. They contain around 54 calories each 3/4th cup or 100 grams of lingonberries. Hence these berries are good for people who want to shed those extra pounds. A study showed that mice who were fed 20 percent of calories from lingonberries along with a high-fat diet for three months weighed 21 percent less and had less body fat than earlier. It is recommended to check with your nutritionist about the appropriate daily intake of lingonberries.

As per multiple test-tube studies done on animals, lingonberries might aid in reducing the levels of triglycerides, promoting blood flow, and averting the growth of atherosclerosis. Experts say that daily consumption of lingonberries in moderation, can enhance cardiovascular health by easing the levels of blood pressure and elevating the levels of HDL cholesterol. Lingonberries contain a compound known as anthocyanin, responsible for its red color might protect cardiac cells from oxidative stress.

Traditional Nordic therapies quite frequently utilize lingonberries to cure oral yeast infections. Lingonberries help prevent the growth of oral germs that can cause yeast infections in the mouth. They help combat gum issues and plaque accumulation on teeth. Despite the additional carbohydrate content, the blood sugar and insulin levels of healthy men who ate sweetened yogurt with 40 grams of lingonberry powder were unaffected due to the diabetic-friendly traits of the fruit. The same study showed that the insulin levels of women who consumed 150 grams of lingonberry puree along with 35 grams of sugar were 17 percent lower than earlier.
