It is not uncommon for many of us to skip breakfast due to a busied schedule, or in pursuit of weight loss. But, have you ever wondered about the long-term impact on your body and overall wellbeing if you continually miss out on the “most important meal of the day”? Let’s examine in some detail the risks of such a dietary choice on your health.

Skipping Your Breakfast Can Harm Your Metabolism

Without a morning meal, your body’s metabolism tends to slow down in an effort to save energy. On the other hand, having breakfast propels your metabolism, supplying the necessary fuel for your body’s functions. Should you pass on this critical morning nutrient boost, your metabolism might become less agile leading to decreased energy levels all day long. As a result, feelings of exhaustion, loss of concentration, and difficulty focusing on tasks might become a reality.

Not Having Breakfast Can Up Your Blood Glucose Levels

Having breakfast plays a key part in managing your glucose levels. Skipping it, your blood sugar might start to swing erratically, leading to peaks and valleys throughout the day. This inconsistency can instigate cravings for high calorie and sweet foods as a way to quickly regain energy. Moreover, avoiding breakfast can interrupt the production of hormones that regulate appetite, potentially resulting in overeating later.

Damage The Immune System

A well-rounded breakfast usually brings with it critical nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and fiber. By missing out on this meal, you run the risk of omitting these key nutrients and deteriorating your overall wellbeing. Habitual breakfast skipping could lead to a shortfall in critical nutrients; compromising your immune system and upping your susceptibility to ill-health. Sufficient nutrition is key in supporting a good immune response and ensuring prime health conditions.

So what needs to be done? Make sure to never miss your breakfast, instead start your day with a wholesome meal – add fruits, wholegrains, protein and some vitamin rich superfoods.
