Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has assured that the government is very concerned about the HIV-positive students in the state and is taking strong measures to address the issue. Speaking to ANI, CM Manik Saha mentioned that various programs have been in place for years to protect youths and students from AIDS.

In response to recent media reports, the Tripura State AIDS Control Society clarified the number of HIV-positive students, explaining that these figures are cumulative over 17 years. Initial reports claimed that 828 students in Tripura tested positive for HIV, with 47 fatalities. The society stated that these reports were misleading and provided additional context to help understand the situation better.

The National AIDS Control Programme started in Tripura in April 1999. For the past 25 years, the Tripura State AIDS Control Society has worked hard to manage and control the spread of HIV, following guidelines from the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO).

The society clarified that the reported numbers cover the period from April 2007 to May 2024, spanning 17 years. During this time, a total of 828 students in Tripura were identified as HIV-positive. Importantly, all these students received free anti-retroviral treatment (ART) as per NACO guidelines. The Tripura State AIDS Control Society urged the public and media to consider the long time span and cumulative nature of these figures when discussing HIV cases in the state.

This clarification aims to provide a clearer picture of the HIV situation in Tripura, emphasizing the continuous efforts and support provided to those affected over the years.
