In Thane, Maharashtra, a serious mix-up at a hospital has caused distress for the parents of a nine-year-old boy. They claim that doctors performed an unexpected surgery on their son’s private part instead of fixing his injured leg.

The trouble began when the boy hurt his leg while playing with his friends last month. His parents took him to the sub-district hospital in Shahapur on June 15 for treatment. The doctors at the hospital advised that he needed surgery for his leg injury. However, the boy’s parents were shocked when the doctors performed a circumcision instead.

“The boy suffered an injury to his leg while he was playing with his friends last month. He was admitted to the sub-district hospital in Shahapur on June 15 and was undergoing treatment. The doctors recently performed a circumcision surgery on his private part instead of the injured leg,” news agency PTI quoted the boy’s parents as saying.

Once the mistake was realized, the doctors quickly carried out the necessary surgery on the boy’s injured leg. Despite this, the boy’s parents were understandably upset and lodged a complaint with the police. In response, a health official promised to investigate the matter thoroughly.

A medical official from the hospital, Gajendra Pawar, explained that the boy had a condition called phimosis, which means he had a tight foreskin that needed medical attention.

“We had to carry out two operations,” Pawar said.

Pawar mentioned that the doctors might have forgotten to inform the parents about the need for the second surgery, or they might have told other relatives. This lack of communication has caused a lot of frustration and anger for the boy’s parents.

Despite the hospital’s explanation, the parents are not satisfied. They believe that the doctors should have informed them properly about the boy’s condition and the need for additional surgery. The hospital stands by its actions, insisting that both surgeries were necessary and appropriate for the boy’s health.

As the investigation continues, the hospital will need to address the concerns raised by the boy’s parents and the authorities. Clear communication and proper consent are crucial in medical treatments to avoid misunderstandings and ensure patient trust.

This incident highlights the importance of thorough communication between doctors and patients’ families, especially when dealing with children. It also underscores the need for hospitals to have robust procedures to prevent such mix-ups from happening in the future.
