Skincare is important for all types of skin — dry, oily, or sensitive skin. Healthy skin is vital to a healthy body.

In an exclusive interaction with HealthWire, Dr. Monika Rajpal, Senior Consultant Dermatologist & Dermatosurgeon at Apollo Hospital, Noida, talks about the importance of healthy and why everybody should maintain proper skin care.

Coronavirus is a disease that affects mainly the upper respiratory tract, but in many cases, it can also affect the skin. However, many people are still unaware of the effects of the pandemic on their skin. Skin gets affected easily because coronavirus first comes into contact with the skin and mucous membrane. Numerous studies are investigating the symptoms of coronavirus appearing on the skin in different forms like rashes, blisters, irritation, dermatitis, etc.

Why is skincare so important now?

“Skin is a first protective barrier from outside. Skin layers work hard to protect us. Skin’s most important role is as the first line of defense between our bodies and the world we live in. Obviously, it keeps us healthy. And in times of social media, everybody is working from home. Everything seems to be happening on Facebook and Instagram. So, it is psychologically too very important to have very healthy skin. Skin issue has become a very important health issue suddenly”, she says.

“The basic difference between men and women is women undergo constant hormonal changes beginning from puberty to pregnancy, and to menopause. All women go hormonal changes every single month during the menstrual cycle. It has a huge bearing on women’s skin,” she says.
