Cancer is an intricate cluster of ailments categorized by the unrestrained growth and increase of abnormal cells. It affects millions of people across the world. Although medical science has developed multiple effective cancer treatments in the last few years, it is advisable to be careful and prevent this deadly disease from affecting your well-being and health. Eating a healthy and balanced diet is one of the ways to prevent this disease. Here are some food items that support overall health and are known for their possible cancer-fighting traits.

Broccoli, a cruciferous veggie is a nutritional dynamo containing anti-cancer traits. It contains antioxidants such as sulforaphane that have been proven to be effective in inhibiting the growth of cancer cells and activating natural detoxification enzymes in the body. Including broccoli in the daily diet at least three times a day provides a nutritional boost to the body. Mixed berries like blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries contain remarkable cancer-fighting properties. Berries are high in minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. They help fight oxidative stress and inflammation which are two risk factors associated with the growth of cancer. Flavonoids, mainly anthocyanins found in berries are linked to diminished cancer risk. Turmeric is a golden spice commonly found in Indian households that contains a renowned compound known as curcumin that possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer traits. Curcumin targets and eliminates cancer cells without damaging healthy cells. Turmeric can be used in soups, curries, or golden milk.

Leafy greens, like kale, spinach, and Swiss chard are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Fiber found in leafy veggies improves digestion and helps sustain a healthy weight, which plays a vital role in preventing cancer. Garlic is used in various Indian recipes and is known for its distinguished flavor and cancer-fighting traits due to a compound called allicin which is found in them. Tomatoes contain potent antioxidant lycopene that is linked to a reduced risk of various types of cancer such as breast and prostate cancer. They can be incorporated in sauces, and salads, or can be consumed raw as a snack. Fatty Fish such as mackerel, sardines, and salmon are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids. These vital fats are associated with a reduced risk of some forms of cancer like breast and colorectal cancer. Omega-3 fatty acids exhibit their anti-cancer effects by easing inflammation and preventing the growth of cancer cells.
