New Delhi, O7 November 2024: Sharda Sinha, the legendary voice behind the soulful Chhath songs, passed away on November 5, 2024, at the age of 72. The ‘Bihar Kokila,’ as she was fondly called, succumbed to complications arising from blood poisoning. This news sent shockwaves across the nation, especially in Bihar, where her melodious voice was synonymous with the Chhath festival.  

A Versatile Singer

Sharda Sinha was not just a Chhath singer; she was a versatile artist who excelled in various genres, including Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Hindi folk music. Her soulful voice, coupled with her impeccable rendition of traditional songs, earned her immense popularity and critical acclaim. She was a recipient of numerous awards, including the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, the highest civilian honors bestowed by the Indian government.  

Sharda Sinha’s contribution to Indian music is immeasurable. Her songs were not just entertainment; they were a cultural expression of the people of Bihar and Jharkhand. Her voice carried the emotions, traditions, and aspirations of millions. Her songs were an integral part of the Chhath festival, a significant religious observance in the region.  

The Chhath Connection

The Chhath festival holds a special place in the hearts of millions, and Sharda Sinha’s songs were an integral part of it. Her soulful renditions of Chhath songs, such as ‘Chhath Puja Geet’ and ‘Chhath Puja Ke Geet Gaaye Jaaye,’ became synonymous with the festival. Her voice would resonate through the air, accompanying the devotees as they offered prayers to the Sun God.

Sharda Sinha’s untimely demise is a significant loss to the Indian music industry. Her voice, a symbol of cultural heritage, will be deeply missed. Her legacy, however, will live on through her timeless songs, which will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come.  

Blood Poisoning: A Serious Health Condition  

Blood poisoning, also known as septicemia, is a severe bacterial infection that enters the bloodstream. It can lead to a life-threatening condition if not treated promptly. Symptoms of blood poisoning include high fever, chills, rapid heart rate, and confusion. In severe cases, it can lead to organ failure and death.  

Multiple Myeloma: The Underlying Condition

Sharda Sinha had been battling multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, since 2018. This condition weakens the immune system, making the body more susceptible to infections, including blood poisoning.  

A Tribute to a Legend

Sharda Sinha’s passing marks the end of an era. Her voice, a symbol of cultural heritage, will be deeply missed. However, her legacy will live on through her timeless songs, which will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come.
