Ajwain for Oral Health: Natural Remedies for Bad Breath and Gum Problems

Ajwain also known as carom seeds, is a spice that is frequently used in Indian cooking and traditional medicines. It is derived from the fruits of the Ajwain plant (Trachyspermum ammi), which is grown throughout Asia and is endemic to the eastern Mediterranean region. The tiny, oval-shaped seeds of ajwain have a very strong flavour and scent.

Apart from kitchen uses, it is believed to help with digestion, relieve stomach discomfort and lessen bloating, and gas symptoms. Ajwain seeds are also well-known for their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which makes them a popular component in natural remedies for various health issues, such as respiratory disorders, menstrual cramps, and gum problems and bad breath.

Here are some ways in which ajwain can be used as a natural remedy for bad breath and gum problems:

1. Ajwain Mouthwash: Boil the seeds of ajwain in water to make a mouthwash. Pour the mixture through a strainer and use as a mouthwash after the water cools down. To freshen your breath and help kill bacteria in the mouth, gargle with this ajwain mouthwash after brushing.

2. Chewing ajwain seeds: Chewing on a few ajwain seeds can assist increase saliva production after meals, which helps clear the bacteria in the mouth and food particles. This can lessen the chance of developing bad breath and prevent bacterial gum problems.

3. Ajwain oil massage: Gently massage a mixture of ajwain oil and a carrier oil, like coconut or sesame oil, onto the gums. The antibacterial qualities of ajwain oil can help to kill bacteria and promote gum health. Frequent massages can strengthen the gums and lessen gum irritation.

 4. Ajwain Paste: Grind the ajwain seeds with a little water to make a paste. Before rinsing, apply this paste to the teeth and gums and let it sit for a few minutes. Ajwain’s antibacterial qualities can help lessen gum pain, combat infection, and lessen inflammation.

5. Ajwain and salt rinsing: Make a paste out of powdered ajwain seeds, water, and a pinch of salt. Gently massage the gums with this paste. After that, properly rinse your mouth with water. Salt and ajwain together have the potential to lessen gum irritation and germs.

6. Ajwain Tea: Boil the ajwain seeds in water and steep for a few minutes to make ajwain tea. After straining the tea, brew it hot. Ajwain tea has antimicrobial properties, that helps reduce gum irritation, and freshens breath.

Always remember to combine these natural therapies with routine dental hygiene procedures including twice daily brushing, flossing, and examinations at the dentist. Even though Ajwain is beneficial for oral health, you should always see a doctor if you have any tooth related problems or concerns.
