Union Health Ministry Releases Guidelines and App to Combat Substance Use Disorders

Addiction-Rx Mobile App Launched on World No Tobacco Day 2022

The Union Health Ministry has taken a significant step towards combating substance use disorders and behavioral addictions with the release of a comprehensive pocketbook on standard treatment guidelines. The guidelines are aimed at assisting physicians in providing quality care to individuals affected by substance abuse. To further support healthcare providers in their efforts, the ministry has also launched a mobile app named ‘Addiction-Rx,’ specifically designed to aid physicians in delivering effective treatment and support to those dealing with addiction. This initiative is part of the Drug De-Addiction Programme, demonstrating the government’s commitment to addressing the pressing issue of substance abuse in the country.

Union Health Secretary Leads Virtual Event on World No Tobacco Day

In observance of ‘World No Tobacco Day 2022,’ the Union Health Ministry organized a virtual event chaired by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan. During this event, the Health Secretary, along with senior officers of the Health Ministry and state government officials, took a powerful ‘No Tobacco Pledge’ to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco consumption. The theme for this year’s World No Tobacco Day was “Tobacco: Threat to our Environment,” highlighting the detrimental impact of tobacco on both individual health and the environment.

MyGov Platform Enables Online ‘No Tobacco Pledge’ Campaign

As part of the efforts to maximize participation in the ‘No Tobacco Pledge’ campaign, the Health Ministry made provisions to take the campaign online through the MyGov platform. This move was aimed at encouraging wider dissemination of the pledge and involving citizens from all walks of life in the mission to create a tobacco-free society. From May 31 to June 21, citizens from different states and Union Territories were encouraged to take the pledge, making a collective effort to combat the adverse effects of tobacco on public health.

Uniting for a Tobacco-Free Future

The Union Health Ministry‘s release of treatment guidelines and the launch of the ‘Addiction-Rx’ app mark significant milestones in the fight against substance use disorders. By empowering physicians with the necessary tools and knowledge, the ministry aims to improve the quality of care and support provided to individuals seeking help for addiction-related issues. Additionally, the ‘No Tobacco Pledge’ campaign, both in-person and online, emphasizes the importance of collective action in safeguarding public health from the hazards of tobacco consumption. As we progress towards a tobacco-free future, let us remember the power of unity and individual commitment to creating a healthier and addiction-free society.
