Monkeypox Alert: Suspected Case Admitted to AIIMS Delhi

New Delhi, August 25: The national capital has placed on high alert following the detection of the first suspected case of Monkeypox in the city. A patient who recently returned from a foreign trip has admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi and shifted to the AB-7 ward for isolation and treatment.

The detection of the suspected case has raised concerns about the potential for a resurgence of the monkeypox virus, which has been causing global outbreaks in recent years. While the patient’s diagnosis is still under investigation, the admission to AIIMS Delhi signifies the seriousness of the situation.

Monkeypox: Understanding The Virus

Monkeypox is a rare disease causes by the monkeypox virus, a member of the orthopoxvirus family. It is primarily transmit through close contact with an infected person or animal. Symptoms of it can include fever, rash, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle aches.

Monkeypox – Public Health Response

The Delhi government has activated its emergency response plan to contain the spread of it. Healthcare workers at AIIMS Delhi are taking all necessary precautions to prevent the virus from spreading to other patients and staff.

The authorities are also conducting contact tracing to identify individuals who may have come into contact with the suspected patient. These individuals will be monitor for symptoms and advised to self-isolate if necessary.

The global mpox outbreak in 2022-2023 highlighted the virus’s potential for widespread transmission. While the outbreak has subsided, there remains a risk of new cases and variants emerging.
