Mumbai, January 24-Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai has put two people under observation under suspicion that they could possibly be exposed to novel Coronavirus after they returned from China.
So far, the deadly novel coronavirus, which is believed to have originated from a fish market in the city of Wuhan in central China, has infected a large number of people in China and has claimed six lives till now.
According to media reports, Dr. Padmaja Keskar, executive health officer, BMC, said, “The isolation ward has been created for diagnosis and treatment of persons suspected to have the virus infection.
As doctors at the Mumbai international airport have been asked to send travelers returning from China to the isolation ward if they show any symptoms of the novel coronavirus, the two persons, who had mild cough and exhibited cold-related symptoms, were put under observation.
“All private doctors in the city have been asked to alert us if they observe symptoms of coronavirus in any person who has returned from China,” she added.
In the last five days, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport has conducted thermal screening of 1,789 passengers returning from China. This is for the first time that two passengers have been kept under watch at the civic run hospital as a precautionary step.
Healthwire had earlier reported that no cases of coronavirus infection were detected during screening.
“No passenger with history of visit to Wuhan city of China in the last 14 days was found positive during thermal scanning,” said a health official.
