Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan, father of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, is reportedly set to undergo brain surgery following a sudden spike in blood pressure that raised concerns about his neurological health. The development has prompted widespread concern among fans and members of the film fraternity, with well-wishers praying for his speedy recovery.

According to sources close to the family, the 88-year-old screenwriter experienced a sharp rise in blood pressure earlier this week. While hypertension is common among elderly individuals, doctors monitoring his condition reportedly noticed symptoms that required immediate medical evaluation. He was admitted to a Mumbai hospital for observation, where further tests were conducted to determine the cause of discomfort.

Medical experts explained that a sudden and severe spike in blood pressure can increase the risk of complications such as bleeding in the brain (intracranial hemorrhage), clot formation, or swelling. In elderly patients, these risks are significantly higher due to age-related changes in blood vessels and pre-existing health conditions.

Following diagnostic scans, doctors advised a precautionary neurosurgical procedure to address the issue and prevent further complications. Though the exact medical details have not been officially disclosed by the family, sources indicate that the surgery is being carried out as a preventive and stabilizing measure.

Speaking about such cases in general, a senior neurologist not directly associated with the treatment explained that uncontrolled hypertension can lead to life-threatening brain conditions.

“When blood pressure rises sharply, it can strain the blood vessels in the brain. In some cases, this may lead to bleeding or increase the risk of stroke. Timely intervention is crucial to prevent permanent damage,” the doctor said.

He added that early detection through CT or MRI scans helps doctors assess whether surgical intervention is necessary. “If there is internal bleeding, clot formation, or significant swelling, surgery may be recommended to relieve pressure and stabilize the patient. The outcome largely depends on how quickly treatment begins,” he noted.

Medical professionals emphasize that while brain surgery sounds alarming, modern neurosurgical techniques have significantly improved survival and recovery rates, especially when procedures are performed promptly and by experienced teams.

The Khan family has remained by Salim Khan’s side during this critical time. Salman Khan, who shares a close bond with his father, is reportedly overseeing all medical arrangements. Family members, including siblings and close relatives, are said to be coordinating with doctors to ensure the best possible care.

Members of the Hindi film industry have expressed concern and extended their wishes for his recovery. Salim Khan is widely respected not only as a father figure but also as one of Indian cinema’s most influential writers.

Salim Khan, along with longtime collaborator Javed Akhtar, formed the iconic screenwriting duo Salim–Javed. Together, they revolutionized Hindi cinema in the 1970s with blockbuster films that defined the “angry young man” era.

Their notable works include classics like Sholay, Deewaar, and Zanjeer—films that not only achieved commercial success but also shaped storytelling trends in Bollywood for decades.

Beyond his professional achievements, Salim Khan is known for his strong family values and guiding influence in Salman Khan’s life and career. Salman has often credited his father for instilling discipline and resilience in him.

As of now, Salim Khan is reported to be stable and under close medical supervision. Doctors are optimistic about the procedure, emphasizing that timely treatment significantly improves the chances of recovery. However, given his age, careful post-operative monitoring will be essential.

Experts advise that managing blood pressure through medication, lifestyle changes, and regular check-ups is crucial, particularly for elderly individuals. Sudden spikes in hypertension should never be ignored, as they can lead to severe complications affecting the heart, kidneys, or brain.

News of his hospitalization has sparked an outpouring of support on social media, with fans sending prayers and well-wishes to the Khan family. Many have highlighted his immense contribution to Indian cinema and expressed hope for his speedy recovery.

While the family has yet to issue an official public statement detailing his medical condition, sources suggest that the surgery is a precautionary step aimed at ensuring long-term stability.

As the industry and fans await further updates, the focus remains on Salim Khan’s health and recovery. With timely medical intervention and strong family support, doctors remain hopeful that the veteran screenwriter will overcome this health challenge.
