Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Holds Candle March and Protest, Declares OPD Shutdown to Demand Justice for RG Kar Medical College Incident

The residents and staff of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital organized a candle march to express solidarity and demand justice for the heinous incident at RG Kar Medical College, where a doctor was tragically raped and murdered. The march which was held on 16th August commenced from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and continued till Patel Chowk where the candles were laid and march continued back till the hospital. In addition, the residents held a protest on 17th August, further emphasizing the urgent need for improved safety and security measures for healthcare professionals, especially women, to prevent such devastating incidents from ever occurring again. Participants called for swift action to ensure that such a devastating event is never repeated, emphasizing the importance of a safe working environment for all medical personnel. It highlighted the need for improved safety and security measures for healthcare professionals, especially women, who often work under vulnerable conditions.

“We have declared a complete shutdown of OPD, elective OTs and IPD work. I believe unfortunately that protests and discontinuation of duties have now become the need of the hour to pressurise the authorities and speeding the investigation process so that justice is not delayed. We will continue to fully support the agitation till some concrete changes to address the problem of safety and security of all cadres of workers in health service are not taken” shared Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman Board of Management, Sir Gangaram Hospital
