High uric acid is becoming common among adults due to unhealthy eating patterns, stress, and sedentary lifestyles. When individuals observe high levels of uric acid in their blood test, many of them remake it and think that they should rush to the pharmacy and buy some medicines. This is not always the case, though. Experts say that the majority of cases can be handled without any treatment and by merely changing their lifestyle.
High Uric Acid Doesn’t Always Need Medicines

In many cases, the first line of management is lifestyle correction.” He contends that the style of management, in most instances, is lifestyle correction in the first line.
Uric acid goes up as your body breaks down purines, which are contained in some foods and beverages. With the correction of lifestyle at an early age, the level of uric acid frequently decreases without any medical help.
Simple Lifestyle Changes Can Lower Uric Acid
According to Dr Malhotra, some simple measures can bring the uric acid under control in just a few weeks:
Increase Daily Water Intake
One of the simplest ways of lowering uric acid is to drink sufficient water. Water assists in flushing the extra uric acids from the body by the kidneys. At least 8-10 glasses of water per day, or more so when sweating heavily.
Cut Down on Red Meat and Sugary Beverages
Foods such as red meat and organ meat, which are non-vegetarian, as well as sweetened beverages such as packaged juices and colas, are sources of purines. By decreasing them, one reduces uric acid to a large extent in the body.
Limit Alcohol Consumption
Alcohol and beer, in particular, affect the production of uric acid and cause the inability of the kidneys to get rid of it more easily. An alcohol cutdown will progress at a faster rate in you.
Maintain a Healthy Weight
Surplus body fat amplifies the level of inflammation and uric acid. Frequent body exercise, diet and an active lifestyle are instrumental in maintaining your weight and keeping uric acid in check.
When Are Medicines Needed?
Natural methods are effective in most cases, but medication is required in some cases. “Medicines are needed only when uric acid is persistently high or when symptoms such as gout, joint pain, or kidney stones appear,” said the doctor. Physicians can prescribe drugs when:
- Lifestyle changes do not cause a reduction in the uric acid.
- The gout attacks (acute and painful joint swelling) develop in the patient.
- It has extreme joint pain or inflammation.
- Symptoms of kidney stones or kidney symptoms appear.
Medicinals in these situations will prevent complications and relieve.
Dr Vineet said, “My recommendation is simple — address the root causes early through diet, hydration, and activity before depending on medication.” The first step in the management of high uric acid is lifestyle improvement, which is the safest and most effective. The need for medications is not the most urgent one. Any of these changes can prevent such problems over time and make your uric acid levels healthy naturally.
