Amid the coronavirus pandemic, not everyone is getting medical help for heart problems even potentially serious ones, such as heart attack, heart failure, arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats), and others.

So, if you have heart issues you whether sudden or long-standing, you need to see a doctor at the soonest. A new study published in the Journal of Emergency Medicine mid-May studied 45 recent reports pertaining to COVID-19 and cardiovascular complications and found that the coronavirus can cause lasting heart impairments.

Along with that some experimental drugs used for the treatment of COVID-19, such as hydroxychloroquine and remdesivir may lead to the cause heart damage in some patients and may further the preexisting condition of the heart issue.

Though, still more research is being awaited to confirm how coronavirus affects heart function and the patients with coronavirus may increase the more risk of running into heart issues.

In an exclusive interaction with Healthwire, Dr. Prashant Kumar Chaudhary, Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon, and Dr. Harimohan Kumar, Medical Officer at PMCH explain how a respiratory infection that Covid-19 is, inflicts so much damage to the heart:

“Heart patients or any other patients with other comorbidities must be alert since the very first symptom of COVID-19. They must immediately get into consultation of their physicians. Symptoms like conjunctivitis, running nose, body ache or any type of head ache must not be ignored rather should be considered to be a suspect or positive,” Dr. Harimohan Kumar, Medical Officer at PMCH.
