The city has reported 17 dengue cases since June 6, when it saw its first case this year. As the city is experiencing extremely humid weather conditions, the number of dengue cases is likely to surge in the coming days, health department officials said.

All You Need To Know About Dengue

Dengue fever is a virus spread by mosquitoes that brings severe flu-like symptoms such as high fever, intense headaches, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle aches, fatigue, nausea, and rashes. In its most severe form, it can cause Dengue hemorrhagic fever, which is life-threatening.

How Dengue Spreads

The Dengue virus is mainly spread to humans by the bites of infected Aedes mosquitoes, especially Aedes aegypti. These mosquitoes are most active during daylight hours, particularly in the early morning and late afternoon.

Preventive Steps

To prevent Dengue, it’s crucial to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and minimize exposure to bites. Residents should keep their surroundings clean, cover water containers, use mosquito repellents, and wear clothes that cover the skin to avoid bites.

Recognizing and Diagnosing

Early Dengue symptoms can be confusing and mimic other illnesses, making it hard to diagnose. Key signs include a sudden high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle aches, fatigue, and rash. Lab tests are essential for a confirmed diagnosis.

Managing Dengue

There’s no specific medicine for Dengue fever. Patients should rest, drink plenty of fluids, and use pain relievers to ease symptoms. Severe cases might need hospitalization to manage fluids and provide supportive care.

In response to the outbreak, Gurgaon’s health officials have ramped up mosquito control activities such as fogging, spraying larvicide, and engaging the community with awareness campaigns. Enhanced surveillance and early detection efforts are also underway.

Fighting Dengue requires the help of everyone. Residents should work with health officials, report any suspected cases, and actively take steps to stop mosquitoes from breeding in their areas.

The recent Dengue outbreak in Gurgaon highlights the need for constant vigilance and quick action to control mosquito-borne diseases. By working together and following preventive measures, we can significantly lower the risk of Dengue transmission and keep our communities safe.
