Tragedy and Allegations

Dr. Archana Sharma’s untimely death by suicide sent shockwaves through the medical community. Her suicide followed allegations of murder against her in connection with the death of a pregnant woman at her hospital in Dausa.

Immediate Government Response

In response to the incident, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took swift action. He ordered the removal of a senior police officer and the suspension of an SHO. Additionally, Deputy Superintendent of Police Lalsot Shankar Lal was put under awaiting posting orders.

Administrative Inquiry

To investigate the matter further, Divisional Commissioner Jaipur Dinesh Kumar Yadav will conduct an administrative inquiry. This inquiry aims to shed light on the circumstances leading to Dr. Sharma’s tragic decision.

Medical Community’s Protest

The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association India (FORDA) has organized a peaceful candle-light protest on March 31 at Jantar Mantar. The medical community seeks to raise awareness and show support for the cause, urging the government to address the issue.

Committee for Preventive Measures

CM Gehlot directed the formation of a committee led by the additional chief secretary (home) to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. This committee, comprising officials from various departments and medical experts, will assess the legal aspects and formulate guidelines to be implemented across the state.

CM Gehlot’s Statement

The Chief Minister expressed his condolences and condemned the incident, emphasizing the need to protect doctors who have been on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic. He called for a thoughtful approach to accusations against medical professionals.

Accusations and Counterclaims

Relatives of the deceased pregnant woman accused Dr. Sharma of negligence, while Dr. Sharma, in her suicide note, cited Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) as the cause of death. Dr. Suneet Upadhyaya, her husband, accused BJP leaders of influencing the murder case against her, an allegation the BJP denied.
