New Delhi:  A minor fire broke out at the central government’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Saturday, prompting the medical authorities to shift over 200 patients to a safer zone of the institution, officials said.

The incident happened early Saturday morning when the fire broke out suspected to be from a shot circuit. However, the situation was brought under control immediately after five fire tenders were sent to the hospital.

“The Delhi Fire Services received information about the blaze at around 4.19 am, following which five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it was doused by 5.15 am,” an official, unwilling to be named, told the Healthwire.

He informed that the incident had caused panic which led the medical authorities to shift more than 200 patients to safety.

In a statement, the Union Health Ministry said the fire was doused immediately by the hospital staff and there was no casualty.

Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Health Secretary Preeti Sudan and other senior officers visited the hospital and took stock of the situation.

“Vardhan also interacted with the attendants and the patients who were shifted. The situation is fully under control and all the services, including emergency services, are functioning smoothly, a statement from the health ministry said.

“Electric supply that was temporarily suspended as a preventive measure has now been restored,” it added.

Meanwhile, the intensive care unit (ICU) services are also back to the normal. The emergency services that were shifted to the trauma centre have been shifted back to the ground floor.
