New Delhi, January 11- A high-intensity explosion at a medical gas manufacturing plant killed eight workers on Saturday morning, precisely at 11 am, in Padra, Vadodara district, Gujarat.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the blast in the plant, owned by Aims Oxygen Private Limited, a company bottling oxygen for hospital and industrial use, took place 30 kms away from Vadodara city. The FSL team was sent to the spot for further probe into the incident.
The local police says that the explosion inside the oxygen gas plant was fairly loud and instantly killed five workers on the spot. The rest of the three workers succumbed to their injuries at a private hospital. There are still 10 other injured workers who are being treated at the hospital.
“The preliminary probe has revealed that a fire engulfed the nitrogen and hydrogen cylinders inside the plant and thereafter spread to the oxygen plant, where the flames came into contact with the oxygen and resulted in a huge explosion. The intensity was so high that it caused a tremor in the vicinity for upto 5 kilometers. The fire department is preparing its report after which we will ascertain if any kind of negligence in handling the elements caused this explosion,” the report quoted a police official as saying.
The blast was so powerful that its magnitude that the plant’s metal roof was shred in pieces and flung in the air. The blast also caused crack the window panes of many homes and their utensils in their kitchens to fall. The metal roof of the plant was also flung in the air and shredded to pieces.
“The Padra and the Vadu police are investigating the case. The owners and those responsible for the safety of the plant will be questioned and the case will be booked as per the investigations,” ACP Sudhir Desai said.
As gathered from the records, the company claims to be a business entity since 1961, established Late Asok Raojibhai Patel.
