The Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital has reinforced its iconic Cancer Centre by on-boarding a team of renowned organs specific, ‘Speciality Surgical Oncologists.’The decision is aimed to address the likely spike in cancer-related complaints as a result of the delay in screening, detection, treatment and after-care due to the ongoing pandemic.
The five renowned Onco-surgeons are Dr Snehal Shah (Head and Neck), Dr Sanket Mehta (Cytoreductive Surgery and HIPEC), Dr ChetanAnchan (Ortho-onco), Dr Jay Anam (Breast Cancer) and Dr Praveen Kammar (GI-Colorectal). Along with precise, personalised and state-of-the-artonco-surgical solutions, the team will launch a rare Onco-Robotic surgery program assisted by the latest Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system.
Dr Sanjay Dudhat, Head—Department of Oncosurgery said, “The integration of organ-specific surgical oncology team with Nanavati Cancer Care Unit will bolster our mission to improve the quality of life for cancer patients by providing an accurate diagnosis, treatment, to cure and prevent the disease.”
Veteran onco-surgeons of Nanavati’s Cancer Centre will be a guiding force for the young and dynamic team of surgical oncology specialists on board. “Each member of the team has a deep understanding of their fields and offers fresh perspectives to our holistic cancer care program. We are suspecting a probable rise in the cancer incidents as the aftereffect of the pandemic and timely inclusion of these experience-surgeons will strengthen Nanavati Hospital’s battle against cancer,” said Dr Sudeep Sarkar, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology. Both Dr Dudhat and Dr Sarkar will share their massive three-decade-long experience with the team.
Oncologists have observed a sharp drop in diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients as an aftereffect of the pandemic and ensuing lockdown. Most of these cases, which otherwise could have been effectively managed by surgery, now have to undergo chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Experts are suspecting that this alarming situation may lead to the advancement of early cancers or worsening of advanced cancers and result in cancer fatality.
Thus the strengthening of Nanavati Hospital’s iconic Cancer Centre will play an important role to eliminate and contain all types of cancer in near future. The centre currently offers state-of-the-art oncological technologies, such as Halcyon—the latest linear accelerator, The Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical Systems andHIPEC Technology (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) amongst others. “Our ultra-modern technology and infrastructure complement the vast team of multidisciplinary experts across surgical, medical, radiation and nuclear oncology.
Our goal is to improve the treatment outcomes by discovering, developing, and delivering innovative solutions for cancer patients and their families at Nanavati Hospital,” said Dr VandanaPakle, Managing Director, Nanavati Hospital.
