Gurugram : In a remarkable story of medical resilience and compassion, doctors at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Gurugram, successfully revived, nurtured, and brought back to life for an abandoned premature newborn. The newborn baby boy, weighing just about 1.5 kg, brought to the hospital in an extremely critical condition by the Sector-29 police earlier last month, with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached.

On arrival at the hospital, the baby was cold to touch, unresponsive. And had no detectable cardiac activity or breathing, indicating cardio-respiratory arrest. The emergency team at Max Hospital, Gurugram, immediately initiated life-saving resuscitation measures.

A team of doctors led by Dr. Camelia Nongrum, Head Emergency, Max Hospital, Gurugram and Dr. Sachin Jain, Senior Consultant – Neonatology. Assessed the baby’s condition and initiated advanced neonatal resuscitation as per established protocols.

Elaborating on the baby’s case, Dr. Camelia Nongrum said. “When the baby arrived, there were no signs of life, and the condition was extremely critical. Our emergency and neonatology teams immediately initiated advanced neonatal resuscitation and worked relentlessly for nearly 30 minutes to revive the newborn. Seeing the baby respond after such prolonged resuscitation was a powerful reminder of how timely intervention and teamwork can save even the most fragile lives.”

As per protocol, the hospital informed the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Gurugram, and continued to provide regular updates on the baby’s condition.

Over the following days, the newborn showed steady clinical improvement under intensive care. The baby remained on ventilator support for 48 hours. Was extubated to non-invasive respiratory support on day 3, and breathing on room air by day 5. The infant gradually started on feeds and continued to gain weight under the close supervision of the NICU team.

Adding, Dr. Sachin Jain said, “Over the weeks, he became ‘Baby Max’ for all of us in the NICU. The nurses would greet him first when they began their shifts. And doctors would check on him even beyond their routine rounds. Everyone who walked into the unit knew his story. His tiny movements, his steady weight gain, and his quiet determination lifted the spirits of the entire team. In many ways, he became the light of our ward, a little fighter and a small celebrity whom everyone cherished.”

By the time of discharge on March 10, 2026, the baby had gained significant weight reaching 2.56 kg. And was clinically stable, breathing on room air, neurologically fit and stable, and maintaining normal vital parameters.

Following medical clearance and as per the guidance of CWC and CMO. The baby transferred to Civil Hospital, Gurugram, in the presence of local police officials for further care and statutory procedures.

Doctors at Max Hospital, Gurugram, described the recovery as a testament to timely medical intervention. Coordinated teamwork, and the remarkable resilience of newborn life.
