New Delhi, October 12: Arthritis, a condition characterized by joint inflammation, is a prevalent health issue affecting millions of people worldwide. While it can occur at any age, the risk of developing arthritis increases significantly after the age of 30. Recognizing the early warning signs can be crucial in preventing the progression of the disease and improving overall quality of life.

1. Joint Pain and Stiffness: One of the most common symptoms of arthritis is persistent joint pain, often accompanied by stiffness, especially in the morning. This pain may worsen with activity and improve with rest. If you notice a significant increase in joint discomfort or stiffness after 30, it’s essential to pay attention.

2. Reduced Range of Motion: As arthritis progresses, you may experience a decrease in your range of motion. This means that it becomes more difficult to move your joints freely. For example, you may find it challenging to bend your knees or elbows fully. Changes in joint flexibility can be a subtle yet important indicator of underlying arthritis.

3. Swelling and Tenderness: Arthritis often leads to swelling and tenderness in the affected joints. These symptoms can be accompanied by warmth and redness. If you notice persistent swelling or tenderness in your joints, even without significant pain, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare professional.

4. Joint Deformity: In some cases, arthritis can cause joint deformity. This occurs when the cartilage that cushions the bones in your joints becomes damaged, leading to abnormal bone growth and changes in joint shape. While joint deformity is often associated with advanced stages of arthritis, it can sometimes be a sign of an underlying condition.

5. Fatigue and Weakness: Arthritis can have a significant impact on your overall energy levels. Fatigue and weakness are common symptoms of the disease, as it can interfere with your sleep, daily activities, and overall well-being. If you experience unexplained fatigue or weakness after 30, it may be worth exploring potential underlying health issues.

When to Seek Medical Attention

If you notice any of these early warning signs of arthritis, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment. Early intervention can help manage symptoms, prevent disease progression, and improve quality of life.

World Arthritis Day serves as a reminder of the importance of recognizing and addressing the early warning signs of this debilitating condition.
