Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) increased surveillance on Friday and announced another positive case of the Zika virus. The fourth person in Pune to test positive for the Zika virus is a 22-year-old man who tested positive on Friday.

Private practitioners received a letter on Thursday from the PMC’s health department requesting that they notify the civic body of any cases of vector-borne illnesses.

A doctor and his 15-year-old daughter tested positive for the Zika virus earlier this week. Subsequently, a third Zika case had shown negative results. In the meantime, the PMC requested that all hospitals and private physicians report any cases of vector-borne illnesses in a letter. Diagnostic centers and private labs received similar instructions.

PMC controlled and destroyed mosquito breeding sites in specific areas by conducting special drives and surveillance.

The fourth person in Pune to test positive for Zika was a 22-year-old boy from Mundhwa who did so on Friday. He is the son of the woman who was initially thought to have Zika (having tested positive at a private lab), but who, when NIV collected a sample a month later, tested negative. Thirteen samples were taken from the family and neighbors as part of the surveillance, and one of them tested positive. According to PMC health officials, the man showed no symptoms.

They claim that since the mother was a suspected case who tested positive for ZSika during the first week of June at a private lab, there are now four cases overall.
