What is Oxygen laser Therapy?
Oxygen laser therapy uses low-level laser light for hair growth stimulation. Research has shown that red light or near-infrared wavelengths Have a very good effect on cellular regeneration. Low-level laser light makes use of low power Diode lamps which emit low power coherent monochromatic red light to stimulate the hair roots and promote hair growth, said Dr Manjul Agarwal – Senior Consultant – Dermatology, Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh.
How does laser treatment for hair loss work?
Dr Agarwal said, How it acts is a very complex mechanism and is not fully understood yet but to explain it in simpler terms the laser light acts on the cells present in the hair root and prolongs the growth phase known as the Anagen phase of the hair cycle. It also acts on the haemoglobin which is present in the blood to release oxygen which is beneficial for the hair roots that is why it is popularly called oxygen laser therapy. Apart from this LLLT (low-level laser therapy) increases the production of ATP (energy source in cell) in follicular roots and hence gives energy and strength to our hair.
Benefits of laser therapy
This type of therapy can be taken at home by using a commercially available low-level laser comb after consulting a dermatologist or these lamps are available in dermatologists’ offices where the patient can go three times a week and take this therapy. It is absolutely painless, safe and has shown effective results in a variety of hair loss problems, added Dr Agarwal.
