1.54 million people in India at a risk of stroke every year
Negligence and lack of awareness is the major cause
Lifestyle and poor eating habits triggers stroke

New Delhi, December 30, 2019– Leading healthcare provider in North India Max Super Speciality Hospital, Patparganj, organized a Stroke Awareness Drive. Dr Sanjay Saxena, Senior Director & HOD, Neuroscience, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Patparganj, graced the event with his presence and spoke about the growing incidences of stroke cases in India. Along with Dr Sanjay Saxena, there were other doctors from neurosciences, Dr Amit Batra, Dr Vivek Kumar and Dr Vikram Bhadoria who shared their views and spread awareness on stroke among the participants to make them aware on the easily overlooked symptoms of a stroke. The awareness drive was a major success as it saw participation of over 200 residents from Patparganj and neighboring town.

Stroke is a state when a person loses control over partial or full bodily functions such as balance, eyesight, facial distortion and speech also gets affected. As per the findings of Congress of Society of Neuro Vascular Intervention (SNVICON) Mumbai, almost 1.54 million Indians are at a risk of stroke every year. However, only 10% of them avail timely medical interventions. The reason behind such high occurrence and low timely medical intervention is lack of awareness. People do not recognize the symptoms that could possibly lead towards a stroke and this delays medical help.

At the awareness camp, the participants were provided with yoga sessions, movement therapy and basic screening test. This was to encourage them to keep themselves active with yoga and other exercises and to undergo regular checkups to avoid putting themselves to risk. The session started early morning 7 am where everyone participated enthusiastically in the various activities and concluded with Dr Saxena’s speech addressing the participants.

Dr Sanjay Saxena, Senior Director & HOD, Neuroscience, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Patparganj, said, “This session organized by Max Super Speciality Hospital, Patparganj is meant to encourage a healthy lifestyle among people. We aim to educate people and make them understand the extent to which they are harming themselves with an unhealthy and sedentary lifestyle. Smoking, junk food, alcohol, stress, lack of exercise, hypertension and disturbed sleep cycle – all take you a step closer toward poor heart health, which can ultimately lead to stroke.”

“At Max Super Speciality Hospital Patparganj, we have seen almost 70% of stroke cases in Patparganj, are presented severe cases, only because the patient was unable to recognize stroke symptoms, which led to delayed treatment. Therefore, it becomes imperative for us, as healthcare providers, to ensure that we educate our people on the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle,” he added.

Over the past years, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Patparganj has been actively working towards ensuring international standard healthcare facilities. The unit has held numerous awareness camps, health-camps and OPDs for urological disorders across North India.
