Dr. Dattatreyudu Nori appointed as International Director, Apollo Cancer Centers

With the advancement in science, Prof  Nori says, “Cancer is curable”

World-renowned oncologist Dr Dattatreyudu Nori, has been appointed as international director of the Apollo Cancer Center under the Apollo Hospital Group. Beginning this month, Dr Nori will be available for consultation 10 times a year at Apollo Hospitals across the country, spending four months in India.

 

He will be available virtually through the year trough the Ask Apollo platform.

 

Dr. Nori is a Padma Shri Awardee and as also received the highest civilian honour in the US in 2014, the “Ellis Island Medal of Honour”. In 2017 he was honored with the highest recognition “Living Legend in Cancer Care” by the Indian Cancer Congress.

 

Dr Prathap C Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, welcoming Dr Dattatreyudu Nori, said “It is a great pleasure to welcome the ‘Living Legend in Cancer Care’ Dr Dattatreyudu Nori to the Apollo Hospitals family. During his first visit, Dr Nori visited Apollo’s and South Asia’s first ever Proton Cancer Centre. He also visited Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Delhi.

 

He spoke at the Global Health Summit and the launch of the GAPIO “Clinical Knowledge Development Programme” giving his input on the necessary skills required to build leaders in the medical fraternity.

 

Speaking about his new role at Apollo Hospital, Prof. Dr. Dattatreyudu Nori said, “It is honour to join hands with the Apollo team in its mission against cancer. The Apollo Proton Cancer Centre is the shining example of Dr. Prathap Reddy’s Dedication to the case of bringing latest medial technology to the country. As the international director of the Apollo Cancer enters, I look forward to the opportunity to bring my experience to cure challenging cases and also share my learning with my colleagues at Apollo Hospital Group”.

 

Dr Nori has spent over four decades in the US and is recognised as a global thought leader in cancer research with many path-breaking and innovative developments in the field of treatment attributed to him. He has also taken a special interest in ensuring that these advances reach the less privileged cancer patients across India.

 

Besides his involvement in setting up government-run cancer treatment centres and hospitals in India, he has initiated various programmes for Indian doctors to receive advanced training at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre and Cornell University Medical Centre.

 

Dr Nori is also a consultant to the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), advising on the formulation of guidelines for cancer treatment in developing countries.

 

“With precision oncology, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, innovative bone marrow transplants, cytoreductive therapy, minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, IGRT, IMRT, SRT, newer techniques in brachytherapy and now Proton Therapy expanding the scope of therapy against cancer, Apollo Cancer Centres are well-positioned to provide cancer care which hitherto was available only outside India,” said Dr Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director, Apollo Hospitals Group.
