An epidemic of a new variant of bacterial pneumonia, termed White Lung Syndrome, has been impacting children’s health in China, Denmark, the Netherlands, and the US. Experts say that the new disease mainly affects children in the age range of 3 to 8 years. Health experts say that the new disease has been termed as white lung syndrome pneumonia due to the way it damages the lungs which is caused by the new pneumonia strain known as mycoplasma pneumoniae. Several antibiotic medications fail to treat mycoplasma pneumoniae. In Denmark, cases of mycoplasma pneumoniae have been touching epidemic levels that emulate chilling similarities to the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
There has been a sudden rise in cases of pneumonia in the Netherlands among children. Sweden has been witnessing a perturbing increase in children affected with pneumonia. The infectious illness spreads through breathing, coughing, sneezing, talking, and singing transmitted by minuscule respiratory droplets. The state health authorities in Ohio have said that many areas of the state have been impacted by the mysterious bacterial infection. Ohio is the first state in the US to report white lung syndrome cases. The state has also reported a higher rate of hospitalization among children affected with mysterious pneumonia disease. Experts from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have said that they have been in talks with Chinese authorities and have found that the recent increase in respiratory infections in the country is not the outcome of a novel virus.
The chief of CDC, Mandy Cohen has said that China has been reporting a sudden rise in respiratory infections across the northern region of the country and the increase in respiratory illnesses might be due to existing pathogens such as RSV, SARS-CoV-2 virus, flu, and mycoplasma. White Lung Syndrome can lead to lung discoloration and scarring. Although the actual cause of the mysterious infection is still unclear, it may be happening due to an amalgamation of viral, bacterial, and environmental factors. Shortness of breath, fever, cough, fatigue, and chest pain are common signs and symptoms of white lung syndrome.
