A new study has revealed that the usage of PrEP which is also known as pre-exposure prophylaxis might be able to ease the odds of being infected with HIV by 86 percent when used in daily life. Many clinical trials have shown that the drug is around 99 percent potent in preventing HIV infection. Experts say that the drug can prevent HIV from invading the body. The study enrolled around 24000 people. Nation Health Services (NHS) sponsored the new study which was conducted at 157 sexual healthcare facilities in England. As per the data, thousands of individuals have been receiving PrEP treatment from sexual health clinics across the country.
Health experts say that such medications should be easily accessible to many people who are not aware of such drugs. Health experts who have been involved in the largest real-world study have said that the findings show the efficiency of PrEP in averting HIV transmission at a large scale. The authors of the study say that the drug should be made available to everybody, especially to minority groups and effective measures should be taken to elevate the awareness about such treatment. Authorities need to make this drug accessible at pharmacies and online stores to widen its availability as there are many people particularly women who do not know about PrEP.

The study also revealed some essential information about the usage of this drug. The findings have been able to demonstrate who is being prescribed PrEP and how is it possible to collaborate with sexual health clinics to encourage more people to opt for this medication to keep HIV infection at bay. However, the lead author of the study has said that the real-world efficiency of the drug relies on several factors, especially on whether the medication or PrEP is taken correctly and consistently.
