Health Tips | Pomegranates, considered a berry, are a very popular food in India. Hundreds of seeds, full of juice, inside the non-edible skin, have several health benefits. One can add them to salads or oats or can extract the juice and drink it. It has great antioxidant features and boosts your immunity. Though it takes some effort to eat this fruit, the benefits are simply much more than this.

Pomegranates are Good for Your Heart

According to nutritionist Anjali Mukerjee, eating three pomegranates regularly can protect your arteries and improve your heart’s health.

In an Instagram post, Mukerjee said that pomegranate is a very powerful anti-atherogenic agent.

“Pomegranate has very powerful antioxidants. They not only clean the arteries and reduce blood pressure but also protect the heart and prevent clogging of the blood vessels,” she said.

She said that people with high blood pressure should eat three pomegranates daily for at least 90 days. “This will have a positive impact on cardiovascular health and also lower helps in lowering blood pressure besides providing a powerful antioxidant support.”

Heart-Healthy Diet Will Lower Blood Pressure

Mukerjee suggests that people should consume a heart-healthy diet as this would help in lowering cholesterol and blood pressure. Apart from this, such foods help decrease the risk of diabetes and maintain a healthy weight.

Here are some nutrition tips for a healthy heart

  • Eat more fibre. For this, it is always better to eat whole grains instead of white bread and pasta.
  • Include lots of vegetables and fruits in your diet.
  • Dietary cholesterol should be limited. For this, it is better to reduce the consumption of whole milk, cheese, etc.
  • Eat healthy fat like avocado, olive oil and nuts.
  • Trans fats and saturated fats should be avoided. They are found in processed foods and must be avoided.
  • Intake of salt should be limited. High sodium in salt leads to high blood pressure. Quit smoking and limit alcohol intake.
