A day after a circular of the Saroj Super Speciality Hospital, stating that ‘Rs 3 lakhs will be a minimum bill for COVID-19 patients’ went viral, the hospital has issued a clarification stating that the ‘the circular dated 4.06.2020, was one of the proposals internally made.’
“However said proposal was internally knocked down and never taken forward,” the hospital said in a release.
“Moreover, the first COVID patient admitted at our facility was on June 8,020; hence the rates as being circulated have never been charged to any patient and is based on outdated information,” the release reads.
The hospital claims that no one tried to seek their version on the issue which is completely baseless as Health Wire had tried to get Saroj Hospital’s version through its PR but in vain.

“It is disheartening to see an internal un-acted upon document to be interpreted without seeking any clarification from the hospital. This rate list has never been enacted upon and was formulated based on circumstances that are completely different from today’s. This episode which has not been reconfirmed from the 24 year young hospital has maligned our creditability seriously,” the hospital has said.
Also, the circular clearly stated that the charges have been fixed as per the ruling of the Government of Delhi.
“Any panel patient will be charged as above which are as per Govt Of Delhi ruling Vide their letter No. 23/413 Gen/Circular/HC/OGHS/HO/S366 dated 24/5/20,” the circular stated. The hospital has not tried to explain anything about it. Moreover, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to explain the above-mentioned order which has been quoted by Saroj Hospital.

The hospital said that the incident has will deter patients from availing of the desperately needed treatment.
“Handling of the issue by media and social media has immensely effected the morals of hospitals like us who are already reeling under tremendous stress. While we understand that the June 4th circular may seem shocking but the truth is that it was based on different circumstances and was never enacted upon,” the release reads.
