India Records Highest Number Of COVID Recovery Cases In The World: Govt

The COVID-19 cases are increasing rapidly every day but India has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 recoveries in the world, the government said on Tuesday. For the past four consecutive days, India has been witnessing a number of daily recovery cases that have surpassed the new infections reported per day.

About 44.9 lakh patients of COVID-19 have recovered from the infection in India, by which the country’s recovery rate crosses the milestone of 80%.

The highest ever single day recovery of 1 lakh cases has been recorded in the last 24 hours and more than 5 crore tests have been conducted around the country along 12 lakh tests conducted on a single day.

Addressing a press briefing, Union Union Health Ministry Secretary, Rajesh Bhushan, said India has the highest number of recovered cases in the world at 44,97,867.

“India’s COVID-19 cases share is 17.7 per cent of global infections, while those who have recuperated are 19.5 per cent of total recoveries in the world. The daily recoveries from COVID-19 are more than the number of new infections reported per day for past four consecutive days”, he said.

Hence, early detection of cases, followed by isolation, seamless hospitalization have also contributed towards achieving the highest recoveries, and “this has been possible because of an exponential increase in testing infrastructure in the country”, added Shri Bhushan.

The Health Secretary stated, “While 1 crore tests were done by 1100 labs in the country on 7th July, it increased to 3 crore tests by 1600 labs on 3rd August and 6 crore tests were done on 17th September by 1776 government and private labs took together and a substantial amount of credit for this achievement goes to the leadership shown by ICMR and the prompt participation in testing by the private sector labs”

It has been noticed that new recoveries have exceeded new cases in the country over the last four days and certain apprehensions that have been raised about having less testing in some states and informed that more than 8 lakh tests were done every day in the above stated period (September 19-22, 2020) were ruled out by the Health Secretary.

While the US’s COVID-19 cases share is 22.4 percent of global infections, those who have recovered are 18.6 percent of total recoveries in the world and Brazil’s COVID-19 cases share is 14.5 percent of global infections, those who have recovered are 16.8 percent of total recoveries in the world, a data presented by him showed

“The number of active COVID-19 cases was less than one-fifth of the total 55,62,663 infections in India. We get swayed by the narrative that India has over 50 lakh cases, but we forget that nearly 45 lakh people have already recovered,” the health secretary said.

He continued by saying that “India’s COVID-19 deaths per million population is also amongst the lowest in the world. India has 64 deaths per million populations, whereas the world’s average stands at 123.”

Addressing the briefing, COVID-19 task force member V K Paul (NITI Aayog member) advised people to follow all the social distancing norms and to wear masks especially as the festival occasions are about to begin next month. He stated that about 36-50 percent of the COVID-19 cases can be reduced by wearing masks.
