A higher percentage of beneficiaries are able to take the Covishield shot and not Covaxin, recorded by hospitals administering the COVID-19 vaccine.
A higher number of healthcare staff are opting for the Covishield injection, according to hospitals delivering the vaccine.
A TOI report said that because of a lack of efficacy evidence, Delhi doctors are more apprehensive about taking Covaxin.
Bharat Biotech published a fact sheet on January 19, warning individuals not to take Covaxin if they are immuno-compromised or on medications that affect their immune system. It further indicated that if they have any allergies or other severe health-related problems, individuals taking the jab should notify their vaccination officer.
The study further notes that in six central government-run hospitals in Delhi, Covaxin is administered, while Covishield is administered in all state-run and private hospitals. This has resulted in uncertainty among healthcare workers and frustration.
As the third trial of this vaccine is in its initial stage, many physicians and PG students in Bihar are not able to take Covaxin.
On the second day of the COVID-19 immunization campaign, Delhi registered about 17% fewer vaccinations than in the previous session.
RML Hospital Doctors Want Covishield
Resident doctors at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital expressed reservations on January 16 about taking Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin due to its incomplete clinical trial data and asked the hospital administration to vaccinate them with the ‘Covishield’ Oxford Covid-19 vaccine.
“The doctors wrote in a letter to the medical superintendent, “The residents are a little apprehensive about the lack of a full trial in the case of Covaxin and may not participate in huge numbers, thus defeating the vaccination objective. We ask you to vaccinate us with Covishield, which before its launch had completed all stages of the trial.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain had to convince people that there was no need to be scared and expressed trust in the Indian experts and scientists in order to alleviate the fears.
