The spread of the novel coronavirus in India has quickened in the last few days with new infections are rising rapidly. While India’s Covid-19 case tally crosses 48 lakh mark with a spike of 92,071 new cases and 1,136 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
The World Health Organization reported a record one-day increase in global coronavirus cases on Sunday, with the total rising by 3,07,930 on Sunday.
The biggest increases were from India, the United States and Brazil, according to the agency’s website. Deaths rose by 5,537 to a total of 917,417. India reported 94,372 new cases, followed by the United States with 45,523 new infections and Brazil with 43,718 on Sunday.

According to the Ministry of Health, “India’s Case Fatality Rate (CFR) stands at 1.64%, one of the lowest globally.The global CFR currently is nearly the double of Indian CFR at 3.18%. Most deaths and cases are concentrated in about 10 states, while measures are being taken by both the Centre and state governments to cut the disease transmission.
The Centre's focussed, calibrated & effective strategies have manifested in high level of Recovery Rate (77.88%),& a sustained low Fatality Rate(1.65%).

Most of India’s cases are in Maharashtra. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh, together these states have 57% of total 9,73,175 active cases, even as they also account for 58% of the total recoveries recorded on Sunday, health ministry data shows. New surges are also being recorded in the country’s vast hinterlands.

Both the United States and India each reported over 1,000 new deaths in the past 24 hours.
The previous WHO record for new cases was 306,857 on September 6. The agency reported a record of 12,430 deaths on April 17. India leads the world in new cases reported each day and set a global record last week with 97,570 cases reported in a single day.
In some parts of India, medical oxygen is becoming hard to find as total cases exceed 4.75 million. Only the United States has recorded more cases at 6.5 million.
