Only Emergency Surgeries In Delhi Govt Hospitals, Announces CM Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Tuesday that only emergency surgeries would be taken on priority in government-run hospitals, while planned surgeries will not be available till further orders.

While addressing a press conference Kejriwal said, “Planned surgeries are in high number while emergency surgeries are usually in less number. Therefore, hospital authorities have been directed to admit non-covid patients only if it is an emergency case.”

Meanwhile, witnessing the increasing Covid-19 cases in the capital, the Chief Minister declared that CBSE exams should be canceled.

“Around six lakh students and around one lakh teachers will come to exams centers. They can get infected with Covid-19, hence it would be necessary to cancel CBSE exams. I would request the Centre to cancel CBSE exams,” he added.

Kejriwal added that his government would also set up Covid centers in government-run schools.

According to the latest figures released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India recorded 184,372 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, which takes the country’s total infection count to past 13.87million. The daily toll from the viral disease has gone up to 1027 and this is the first time in over five months that the fatalities have crossed the 1000-mark.

The active Covid-19 caseload, which accounts for 9.24% of total confirmed cases in the country, has crossed the 101,000-mark as India battles the second wave of infections.
