Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reviewed the issue of OBC and EWS reservation in all India quota of medical education. To give OBC reservations in the All India Quota (AIQ) of medical education has been a demand for a long time. The issue is pending for a long time now even though several litigators have also been made in various courts of the country.
In total 15% of undergraduate and 50% of postgraduate seats of State Government Medical colleges are earmarked as All India quota. SC and ST have a reservation in this quota for admission, but there is no reservation for OBCs.
According to government sources, in the review meeting, the PM raised the issue of OBC reservation in the All India Quota of medical education may be resolved by the ministries concerned out of court on priority.
The officials of the ministry have been asked by Prime Minister, Modi to review the position of implementation of EWS reservation by various states for medical education, according to sources.
At the same time, PM Modi has also directed that the ministry of health and family welfare implement reservations to the economic weaker section as well.
The union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union health and family welfare minister Mansukh Mandavia, secretaries of education, health and family welfare, law and justice, and social welfare as well senior offices of PMO remained present in the meeting.
