After 85 people, including visitors, the chef, and other employees, tested positive for COVID-19, a five-star property in Chennai became a coronavirus hotspot.
After 85 people working/ residing at the luxury hotel property tested COVID-19 positive over the last two weeks, the ITC Grand Chola was declared a coronavirus cluster, according to The Indian Express report.
Commenting on the condition, J Radhakrishnan, Secretary of Health, Tamil Nadu, said: “On December 15, one staff member tested positive for COVID-19.”
So far, a total of 609 samples have been obtained and 85 of those have been found to be viral disease positive. Saturation testing of all citizens of the Chennai Corporation has been suggested by the Chennai Corporation.
Greater Chennai Corporation officials have indicated that saturation monitoring will be undertaken as a precautionary measure at all luxury hotels. All hotels in Chennai, meanwhile, have been reminded to adhere to government-issued coronavirus-related SOPs.
This is the second time Chennai has mentioned a COVID-19 cluster in the press. In December 2020, after nearly 200 students tested positive for the virus, IIT Madras turned into a COVID-19 hotspot.
The hotel claimed that all associates, “which is an ongoing process and part of our hygiene protocol.” were routinely checked and monitored.
At all touchpoints, intense care and diligence continue to be sought and all the required information has been shared with the authorities, “Extreme care and diligence continue to be followed at all touchpoints and all necessary information has been shared with the authorities,”
The hotel reported that “while the GCC has classified some associates as asymptomatic and mild, the majority of our associates are working from home and have been absent from the property and so have no contact with other associates and guests.”
Fever camps were conducted by the civil staff under the Joint Commissioner of Health, GCC, S Dhivyadarshini, and all staff and guests were recommended to undergo testing.
