Indian Coast Guard Director General Rakesh Pal died of a heart attack in Chennai on Sunday. Leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service. Pal was in Chennai to attend a Coast Guard event with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. However, after feeling unwell, he was taken to Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital, where he later pass away.
Rajnath Singh and MK Stalin Pay Tributes
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin were in Chennai for another event, the launch of a commemorative coin celebrating the birth centenary of Kalaignar M Karunanidhi. Both leaders paid their final respects to Rakesh Pal, highlighting the deep impact he had on those who knew him.
Rakesh Pal’s Background and Career
Rakesh Pal hailed from Uttar Pradesh and was an alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy. He joined the Indian Coast Guard in January 1989 and steadily rose through the ranks due to his commitment and expertise. He appointed as the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard in July 2023.
Pal was the first gunner of the Coast Guard and had specialized in Gunnery and Weapons Systems at the Indian Naval School Dronacharya in Kochi. He also completed a course in Electro-Optics Fire Control Solution in the United Kingdom.
Decorated Service and Leadership Roles
Throughout his career, Pal held several key positions. He recognized for his service with the Tatrakshak Medal (TM) in 2013 and the President Tatrakshak Medal (PTM) in 2018. He commanded various Coast Guard ships and bases, including ICGS Samarth and ICGS Vijit. Before becoming the Director General, he served as the Commander of the Coast Guard Region (North West) in Gandhinagar and held senior roles at Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi.
