Defence secretary Ajay Kumar has tested positive for Covid-19 and is under home isolation.
“He tested positive on Tuesday. His condition is stable and he will stay at home till he tests negative,” sources said.
Defence ministry has not issued a statement on the matter so far.
Mr Kumar is the top government official to test positive for the disease.
At least 35 officials working at the ministry’s headquarters in South Block here have been sent on home isolation after his reports testing positive for the infection emerged.
The defence ministry has carried out a massive contact-tracing exercise.
The first floor of the South Block is also being sanitised.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh did not attend office on Wednesday, sources said.
