Death In Karnataka Unrelated To Vaccine, Clarifies Govt.

Authorities in Karnataka reported that a man who was given the COVID-19 vaccine died but stated that death was not related to vaccination.

The Ballari district administration said that the man had existing comorbidities i.e. diabetes and a heart condition.

Ballari Deputy Commissioner Pavan Kumar Malapati said that the District AEFI (Adverse Event After Immunization) Committee concluded that death was not related to vaccination.

The Committee will submit a detailed report to the State Department of Health.

The victim was named as Nagaraj. He served at the Sandur General Hospital.

District Health Officer Dr Janardhan, who is a member of the committee, said, “The 43-year-old man is a Group D worker. He worked as a member of the Sandur General Hospital. He was vaccinated at Covishield on 16 January. He died this afternoon and is currently employed at the Vijaynagar Institute of Medical Sciences. He was a resident of Kamalapura in Hospet Taluk.”

“After getting the vaccine, the man went to work. He complained of chest pain on Monday morning, and the doctors at Sandur General Hospital started to treat him. The cause of death is myocardial infarction,” he said.

Nagaraj is the second person across the country to die after taking the vaccine.

It has been stated earlier how vaccination in Karnataka, as in the rest of the world, began on 16 January. However, only 49% of the planned target recipients were vaccinated in the first three days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened a vaccination campaign at Bengaluru Medical College on Saturday. Some private hospitals, such as St. John’s Medical College, have also been included in this initiative. Covishield will be distributed in 237 centres and Covaxin in 6 centres in Ballari, Shivamogga, Hassan, Chikmagalur, Chamarajanagar and Davangere.
