A restaurant in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, called Devi Dosa, was closed by authorities after a customer discovered a dead rat in their sambar. The incident took place in the Nikol area. The customer shared a video of the rat in the sambar, which was posted on the Instagram page Ahmedabad Updates with a caption in Gujarati. When translated to English, the caption read, “A dead baby rat was found in the sambar in Nikol area in the dosa restaurant.”
According to Times Now, the restaurant owner, Alpesh Kevadiya, did not take immediate action when informed about the rat. This prompted the customer to report the matter to the health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). A team from the AMC visited the restaurant and found the kitchen space open and unsafe. Consequently, they sealed the restaurant and issued a notice to the owner, demanding immediate action to address the issues.
This incident comes shortly after another similar case in Gujarat. A decomposed frog was found in a packet of chips bought from a shop in Jamnagar. Additionally, there was another recent incident where a social media user, Vidit Varshney, claimed that his relatives found a dead cockroach in their food while traveling on the Vande Bharat Express train from Bhopal to Agra on June 18. The Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) responded to this complaint by imposing a penalty on the service providers and announced that they have increased monitoring of their production and logistics. These incidents have raised serious concerns about food safety and hygiene in both restaurants and packaged food products.
